Yoonhee Ko is a distinguished cellist whose artistry combines technical refinement with expressive depth. Recognized for her compelling performances as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral artist, she has built a multifaceted career marked by acclaimed performances, prestigious awards, and a deep commitment to music education.
Yoonhee earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, an Artist Diploma and Master of Music from the Yale School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. During her master's studies at Yale, she received the Aldo Parisot Prize, awarded to gifted cellists who demonstrate exceptional promise for a concert career.
Her artistic development has been shaped by studies with renowned cellists Aldo Parisot, Rhonda Rider, Ole Akahoshi, Jong Jin Hong, and members of the Muir Quartet. She has also had the privilege of working closely with members of the Tokyo Quartet and the Brentano Quartet, experiences that have profoundly influenced her musicianship and collaborative approach to chamber music.
A prizewinning chamber musician, Yoonhee is a recipient of the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Yale Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist, she won the Ewha Womans University Concerto Competition and the Boston University Concerto Competition, later performing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme with the Boston Pops. She has also participated in internationally renowned programs including the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and the Banff Chamber Music Residency.
Yoonhee has appeared at distinguished venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, Boston Symphony Hall, the Seoul Arts Center, and the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. She currently performs with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and Quartetto Mosso. In addition to her performing career, Yoonhee serves as String Program Coordinator for Sonido Música at the Community Music School of Springfield, where she mentors young musicians and fosters a lifelong appreciation for classical music.
